Moderating a large-scale live broadcast for a global banking group

Citi is one of the world’s largest banking groups – operating in some 160 countries. Every year the EMEA division holds a media summit for journalists across the region. Normally, this is held in person, with around 100 reporters flying to London to hear Citi’s thoughts and interview key spokespeople. During the pandemic, the conference needed to be delivered virtually so was produced in a similar way to a rolling news TV station, including 15 sessions over two days.

Approach

Citi needed skilled moderation support to ensure that each section was introduced appropriately, and that interviews and Q&A were handled with journalistic rigour. One of Bladonmore’s directors – a former BBC correspondent – was selected to host the summit. His work included supporting the speakers to prepare their sections and establish frameworks for Q&A that brought out their key messaging.

Over the two-day event, the Bladonmore host was the face of the summit, explaining the context for each panel, asking questions of the speakers and taking questions from the 120 online attendees and relaying them to the spokespeople.

Result

The summit was a great success for Citi. It generated a significant amount of coverage of all aspects of its business, from M&A to corporate activity in emerging markets, to the private bank’s analysis of global markets.
Several quotes from Bladonmore’s interviews were used by global media outlets in their stories and the Citi team was delighted with the flow and atmosphere of the event.
