Sport in Abu Dhabi - A winning concept for global recognition

With news that Abu Dhabi will again host the final race in the 2010 Formula One Championship and the FIFA World Club Championships proving to be a massive hit with football fans, a report from the Abu Dhabi Council for Economic Development (ADCED) in the most recent issue of its publication - The Economic Review - underlines the positive impact of Abu Dhabi's position as a global sporting venue.

The publication's timely cover story - 'A game of patience' - charts Abu Dhabi's remarkable entrance onto the global sporting circuit and highlights how this is helping to deliver economic development and international profile for the Emirate.

Fahad al Raqbani, Deputy Director General of the Abu Dhabi Council for Economic Development said: " There is no doubt that the direct benefits of investment in the sports industry, sports infrastructure and sponsorships are paying dividends for Abu Dhabi. But it is the intangible benefit of an increased overseas profile that is more valuable in the long term. It will place Abu Dhabi uppermost in the minds of tourists, sports fans and sporting authorities and will increasingly see Abu Dhabi become a first choice to host the world's highest profile events."

ADCED appointed Bladonmore in September 2008 to produce The Economic Review. It is focused on highlighting initiatives to encourage entrepreneurialism and economic growth in Abu Dhabi and to promote the Emirate as an international economic hub. The Economic Review is produced in Arabic and English, and blends ADCED's economic research and analysis with high-calibre business journalism and leading academic thinking.

Jonty Summers, director, Bladonmore Middle East says:  "The Economic Review enables the Abu Dhabi Council for Economic Development to highlight issues that affect Abu Dhabi's economic development that it has encountered over the course of its advisory work. This publication seeks to share its thinking and helps facilitate a debate with its key audiences within government, business and academia."
