Aligning interests in a time of rapid change

Global financial data group Refinitiv was spun off into private equity ownership from Thomson Reuters in late 2018. Less than a year later it was announcing a merger with the London Stock Exchange Group. It turned to Bladonmore to help with the messaging for internal audiences.

Approach

A select team were made insiders on the deal a few days ahead of the full announcement. The idea was to film CEO David Craig with a ‘town hall’ message to employees for release alongside the media and investor stories. The film had to be gauged very carefully as employees were still getting to grips with the transfer to private equity ownership. It was feared that another change of hands in such quick succession would unsettle the team.

With a CEO who is good at delivering ‘straight to camera’ it was decided to film a message direct down the lens so that it felt like he was speaking directly to all employees. The cut was aligned with the wider deal messaging and designed to reinforce they key attributes of the deal to all colleagues while stressing the need for a business as usual approach.

Refinitiv followed up the deal work by asking Bladonmore to help with the 1st anniversary celebrations of its spin-off from Thomson Reuters. We continue to help the Group with messaging, story development and content initiatives.
